Potash Evaporation Pond
The Intrepid potash mine is a potash evaporation ponds in Utah (38°29'18.34"K 109°40'59.35"B ). There are 23 colourful ponds.
But why is it blue or multicoloured?
Firstly, We must know how potash takes from the deep. They use the drilling machine and core drilling depth is almost 1200 meters. And then, they push the water to the depth. Potash and water are mixing and then they take off the water. The potash is exposed to the sun and the evaporation starts. If they want quickly evaporation they will put dye. When the water completely evaporates, potash and materials stay on the surface. They use the potash for industry, agriculture, animal feed… (you can check company website in this link)
The Intrepıd Potash Company is very famous in the industry sector. The pond area is almost 4-kilometre square but also salt value ıs between 700 and 1000 tons a day. The pond area was created by Intrepid Potash in 1965. They told, “ Actually, the potash pond is red colour but we add the dyes for the speed evaporation”.
